Hi,

This tip/post is going to be about several common Mac OS X commands and wildcard characters I have discovered, at work, that is useful to understand and know how to use. First off, wildcard characters are special characters such as. and? That help you to find groups of filenames that have something in common. The asterisk (.) is a wild card character which denotes any character or name. Typing an asterisk before a website’s address will block all subdomains of a particular site. To reverse the changes, revisit the hosts file in Terminal and delete the changes you’ve made. Are you ready for the ultimate hunting experience? If you want to use a wildcard behavior in Finder :

Mac

Cube runner (itch) (gallantzm) mac os. For this example lets say you are searching for all files *_modif*.PNG

  1. In the finder search box enter .PNG, press ENTER
  2. Now appears just below the search box a Save button and [+] button
  3. Click the [+] button, then towards your left click on the combo box that says [Kind]
  4. In the [Kind] list select 'Other' at the bottom
  5. Scroll down to 'File extension'
  6. Now type in 'PNG' in the box after the text [File extension] is, then press ENTER
  7. Click the [+] button again
  8. In the [Kind] list select 'Name' (which is the same as Filename if you went into 'Other..'
  9. After the [Name] combo, open the next combo box and select 'contains', then enter _modif and press ENTER

You can now save this search, and apply it to the folder you started from or the entire Mac

Note most wildcard behaviors can be obtained by selecting the other options from the same place you selected 'contains', ie 'begins with'..

This tutorial is made for Mac OS using Safari internet browser.

  1. Locate the download link in your email. “Small” contains photos resized for MLS, internet marketing and sending via email. “Big” contains photos in highest resolution and biggest file size for print.
  2. Click on the link to get to the Dropbox page.
  3. Locate the “Download” button in the top right corner and choose “Direct download”.
  4. Your web browser will initiate a download of a folder, which contains all of your photos.
  5. After the download is complete (see the download status bar in your browser), click on the downloaded folder name. That should take you to the folder where your web browser stores all downloaded files.
  6. You should see the individual files and each should have a resolution of 1200 x 800 pixels.
  7. You can verify the resolution by opening a context menu and choosing “Get Info”.

Do not use the “Save as…” option in your browser
Most common issue when not following these steps is saving the Dropbox page via your web browser option “Save As”. If you do that, you will end up with very small image files, because the browser will save only those small thumbnails which you see on the Dropbox page.
